Career Overview

Naturalists are experts in the environment including plants, wildlife, minerals, and fossils. They generally spend their time educating others about the environment within natural and wildlife preserves. They may do this by taking groups on nature hikes.

Education

A four-year bachelor's degree in biological sciences, forestry, wildlife management, natural resources, or a related field is necessary to obtain this position.

Work Environment

Naturalists typically work in parks and wildlife preserves. They will likely spend a lot of time working outside, so they will be exposed to a variety of weather conditions and bugs! They generally work 40 hours per week, but this may increase during busy seasons.
